Discipline Procedure
In the event of your child:
- Hitting, hurting, lying, stealing, bullying, being rude or being disrespectful to a learner or member of staff, not completing homework / required task, the class / subject teacher is expected to manage the first level of discipline.
- If the problem continues, the learner will have a meeting with the respective team in the F.P. / S.P. and the respective Departmental head / Head of Discipline Committee.
- If the problem is viewed as critical, the parent is called in to the school to meet with the School Management Team.
- The matter, at this stage may be referred to the School Governing Body, pending on the nature of the problem.
Good discipline rests on the shoulders of our parents and guardians. Kindly ensure that you present yourself at school when required to do so, as this will be in the best interest of your child.
Absenteeism
Your child's regular attendance at school is crucial to his / her learning. Please refrain from keeping your child out of school for trivial reasons. Parents are requested to inform the school of their child’s absenteeism. If your child is absent for longer than 3 days, a doctors certificate is required. According to policy your child will be deregistered if the absenteeism is longer than 10 days. During formal assessments or examinations, only a medical certificate will be accepted in order for your child to rewrite. If nothing is submitted within reasonable time, your child will be marked absent.
Late Coming
Form teachers are to manage late coming of their respective learners, noting time of arrival in their respective log books and reasons for late coming. Thereafter detention during breaks or after school is instituted, in instances classified as "unacceptable late coming." Educators have the authority to detain learners on Fridays, pending on what the teacher deems most effective to stop late coming of learners. Parents and guardians are kindly reminded to ensure that their child/children arrive at school on time.
Cellphones
Given that cell phones are highly disruptive in schools and that they cause unnecessary problems (stolen, fights over use of phones to play games, personal safety, robbed for phones), the staff and management of G.H.S.J.S have elected to support the NO CELLPHONE POLICY AT G.H.S.J.S since 2013. No learner will be allowed, at any point in time, to use a cell phone on school premises. In the event that the learner is caught using the phone on school premises, the cell phone will be confiscated for the term. Parents are requested to ensure that your child has a phone card to contact you in an emergency. We trust that we have the full co-operation of our parents regarding our NO CELL PHONE POLICY.
Civvies, Birthdays And The Birthday Policy
Kindly be informed that your child is allowed to wear civvies on the LAST FRIDAY of each month, at a cost of R5.00. This is our official fund-raising efforts for the year. Your child is allowed to dress in civvies on his / her birthday. You are most welcome to send special treats for the class, if you choose to do so.
Valuables
Please encourage your child to hand all their valuables to their class teacher for safe keeping. We cannot take responsibility for any items which go missing if they are not handed in.
Safety And Security
- Parents are reminded that the safety and security of your child, before 7h45am and after 13h55pm, is your responsibility as a parent. Kindly check the condition of the transport that your child is using. Call to check that the driver has dropped off your child on time and has collected your child on time.
- Further, ensure that your child has a phone card to contact you in an absolute emergency. Please teach your child your work numbers, your cell numbers, your work and home address, as their lives may depend on reaching you in time.
- PALLISADE FENCING - Kindly talk to your child about the sharp edges of our school's external fencing. Your child must be reminded to stay clear from this fencing for reasons of personal safety.
